What is the course about?

This course provides an in-depth overview and effective strategy on how to reduce and manage absence in your organisation. It takes you through an introduction and instructive guidelines on how to deal with different types of absence, using either disciplinary or incapacity procedures. 

A 1% absence reduction can provide significant cost savings for a business. Jeremy Chennells has over 30 years of experience in the labour field and has designed this course using his practice experience in a wide range of sectors.  The course has applicability in both the public and private sectors and in large, medium or small businesses. 

Course content

Module 1: Developing a strategy to manage attendance

Module 2: Types of absenteeism

Module 3: Procedures for managing absence due to misconduct and incapacity

Module 4: Applying disciplinary procedures

Module 5: Applying incapacity procedures

Module 6: Persistent absence due to illness and/or factors beyond the employee’s control

Module 7: Absence without leave (AWOL) and late-coming

Module 8: Desertion

Module 9: Prolonged ill-health and disability

Module 10: Measuring the rate of absenteeism and costs to a business

Target audience

The course is designed for senior, middle and junior managers, human resource managers and people working in administration. 


The course will take approximately 6 hours to complete, doing it in your own time and at your own pace.   You have 12 months to complete the course. 


There is a quiz at the end of each module that you need to pass with 70% in order to continue to the next module.    You will receive a Certificate of Completion on successful completion of the course.
